Welcome to the 2007-2008 Scouting Year! I am very excited to have the opportunity to be the Troop’s Committee Chair this year and look forward to working with all of you over the next few months. As many of you know, our Troop is organized around three patrols; this year led by Alex Musbach, Jack Walters, and Neal Horner. Alex, Jack, and Neal will be leading the Troop in a great variety of activities including camping, hiking, skiing and, new this year, surfing! Our Senior Patrol Leaders, Kellan Turner and Taylor Drake, and our new Scoutmaster, Bruce Turner, will provide leadership and guidance, and continue the Troop’s tradition of training excellent future Scout leaders. As Committee Chair, I’ll be making sure that all of our Scouts and their parents get an opportunity to contribute. There is an incredible calendar set for the year, kicking off with what was reportedly a great camp out at Dillon Beach and winding up with good sticky fun at the Troop 15 Sno-Cone Booth at the Piedmont 4th of July Parade and Picnic and, of course, the High Sierra Hike. Expect old favorites this year like snow camping and the Mom’s Camp Out. In addition, the Troop will again spend a weekend camping on Angel Island while performing valuable service to the park by working to repair trails. In October, the Troop will be experiencing a new adventure when they have surfing lessons by Club Ed Surf School at New Brighton Beach. Also, expect a backpacking trip in March to help the Scouts and parents prepare for the High Sierra Hike. These activities along with the Christmas tree lot, Camporee preparation, skiing, Scouting for Food drive in November, and a host of others will give us all great opportunities to positively impact not only the Troop but also our greater community. Look for my e-mails throughout the year as I remind you of upcoming events, ask for volunteers as needed, and pass on important information about the Troop and the Piedmont Council. Here’s to a great year! Melissa Nelson-Zucker Troop 15 Committee and Communications Chair |
